True user research isn’t really done by data science. There are several types of user research. For non-researchers it’s easy to think research is only about talking to a few people and that’s it. Many people who are now doing research also lack research foundations. But it’s true that you won’t learn this on a generalist UX design bootcamp, and becoming a UX designer does involve “designing”.
